# SaveHQ > SaveHQ is a free, visual board for everything you save. People send links to SaveHQ in a DM on Instagram, WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram, X (@SaveHQapp) or text, by email, or from their AI assistant, and share the board with friends. For AI apps, SaveHQ is a free, MCP-compatible save layer: any app can save links, notes, photos and files to a person's board, search and count what's there, and organize it, with that person's permission. ## Connect an AI app (MCP) - MCP server: `https://savehq.app/api/mcp` (Streamable HTTP, plain JSON responses, no sessions). Works with Claude, ChatGPT, Muse and any MCP client. - Sign-in, option 1 (OAuth): an unauthenticated request returns 401 with a `WWW-Authenticate` header pointing to `https://savehq.app/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource`. Apps register themselves (dynamic client registration), and the person approves the app on SaveHQ's consent screen. No key to copy. - Sign-in, option 2 (personal key): the person creates a key in SaveHQ → Settings → AI & integrations, and the app sends `Authorization: Bearer shq_…`. - Tools to save: `save_links` (urls, optional note and list name), `save_note` (text, no link needed), `upload_file` (a photo, video or file, by https link or base64; as a new save or attached to one; `cover: true` makes it the picture on that save's tile; with no caption a new save is titled like "Photo: IMG_4823", then by what it shows once SaveHQ has read it). - Tools to read: `search_saves` (query), `recent_saves`, `friends_saves` (what people they follow and their group chats saved; optional `from` a friend or chat, `q` words to find — together they search one group chat's saves), `get_custom_board` (one custom board by id or name: its saves, who's on it, its link, its public description, its private instructions for suggestions — only when the person made it — and the saves suggested for it — with why each fits, also only for the maker), `get_save` (one save in full: note, extra links, comments, files with what each photo shows and each recording says, and what a linked YouTube video or X post shows and says once read (`link_video`); also someone else's save the person can see — on a custom board they're on, or a note tags them in — with `save_url` to open it with its notes), `look_at_file` (watch a video, listen to a voice note or look at a photo on a save, or watch a saved YouTube video, and get back what's in it — photos, videos, voice notes and YouTube links are read within minutes of being saved, so most come back free from what's stored; reading one that hasn't been yet uses the person's AI credits; X posts are read when saved too — their video and photos; links to Instagram or TikTok posts can't be opened — SaveHQ goes by their caption), `count_saves` (how many: by category, period like "last week", words like "San Francisco", kind, privacy), `get_board_link` (`share_url` is the link to send friends; `board_url` needs the person's sign-in), `get_board_overview` (categories, views and group chats, with ids; invites waiting; notes that tag the person, with the save id and a link to the note), `recent_changes` (the board's recent changes, newest first, with the `changeId` to undo each — including changes made by hand or by another app). - Tools to change the board: the same actions as SaveHQ's own AI. Create, rename, reorder, merge or delete categories (`delete_category` with `moveTo` moves its saves into another category first: "delete my Useful stuff tag and put those saves in Recipes"); move, edit, pin, make private or public, or delete saves (up to 20 per change); make, rename or delete views; group chat settings; custom boards at a public address (`create_board` answers the `join_url`, e.g. savehq.app/b/bali-trip; nobody joins by the link alone: `join_board` asks the maker, or accepts an invite; `decline_board_invite` says no thanks; `update_board` also sets who can see it and who can add; a board has a public `description` and private `instructions` that only its maker sees and that suggestions follow, so "suggest cocktail bars on Date night" changes `instructions`; `add_to_board`, `take_off_board`, `skip_board_suggestions`, `leave_board`, `delete_board`, `set_board_updates`, `move_on_board` (rearranges the board's one order, which everyone on it sees: anyone on it when saves go straight on, otherwise only the maker), and for the maker `invite_to_board` (their followers and following), `answer_board_requests` (yes, no, or no and block; a yes tells the person let in), `review_board_saves`, `pin_on_board`); add, edit or delete comments on a save; add or remove extra links on a save, or swap a save's link for another (`replace_save_link`); profile and privacy settings (`update_profile`), which emails they get (`set_notification_settings`), light or dark or match the device (`set_appearance`), and the profile photo. `undo_change` reverses any change; for "undo my last delete", find it with `recent_changes` (`onlyDeletes: true`). - Deleting, merging, making saves or comments public, adding saves to a custom board (the preview names who will see them), and profile changes return a preview and a `confirmToken` instead of acting. Show the preview to the person; only if they agree, call again with the same arguments and the token (valid 15 minutes). - No tool can delete the account, change sign-in or post anywhere outside SaveHQ. - Limit: 60 requests a minute per person, across all apps. ## REST API (same powers as the MCP server) - `POST https://savehq.app/api/v1/saves` with `{"urls": ["https://…"], "note": "…", "collection": "Places to go"}` (links already saved are filed into the collection too, unless the person put them in a category themselves) - `GET https://savehq.app/api/v1/saves?q=ramen&limit=10` (leave out `q` for the newest saves) - `GET https://savehq.app/api/v1/saves/count?category=To%20Watch&period=last%20week` (how many; also `mentions`, `kind`, `private`, `since`, `until`) - `GET https://savehq.app/api/v1/saves/{id}` (one save in full) - `GET https://savehq.app/api/v1/boards` and `GET https://savehq.app/api/v1/boards/{id}` (custom boards: the list, then one with its saves, people, link and suggestions) - `GET https://savehq.app/api/v1/feed?from=Priya` (what people they follow and their group chats saved; leave out `from` for everyone; add `q=tacos` to search them) - `POST https://savehq.app/api/v1/notes` with `{"text": "…"}` - `POST https://savehq.app/api/v1/files` with `{"fileUrl": "https://…"}` or `{"data": "", "filename": "menu.jpg"}`, optional `itemId` to attach to a save, and `"cover": true` with it to make the file that save's picture - `GET https://savehq.app/api/v1/me` (handle, the link to share with friends, and the board link) - `GET https://savehq.app/api/v1/board` (categories, views, group chats, with ids) - `POST https://savehq.app/api/v1/actions/{name}`: every change the MCP tools can make (`delete_saves`, `move_saves`, `merge_categories`…). Risky ones answer `202` with a preview and a `confirmToken`; send the same request again with the token once the person agrees. `GET https://savehq.app/api/v1/actions` lists them all. - `GET https://savehq.app/api/v1/changes?onlyDeletes=true` (recent changes, newest first, each with its `changeId`) - `POST https://savehq.app/api/v1/undo` with `{"changeId": "…"}` - Same personal key or OAuth token as the MCP server.
